AKRON, OHIO (Oct. 25, 2001) --
Plastics Encounter Atlanta, the only plastics trade show in the

AKRON, OHIO -- Processors considering
using online exchanges to purchase resins and other products can
weigh the pros and cons by attending a Nov. 14 panel at Plastics
Encounter Atlanta.
The session, moderated by PN senior reporter Joe Pryweller, will
feature some of the industrys biggest online players, plus
a major blow molder that decided to go it alone on the Web. Participants
include: Peter Foss, president of GE Polymerland; David Jukes, senior
VP of sales and marketing for Omnexus; Jamie Mosberg, VP of strategic
accounts for ChemConnect Inc.; and Kim Watkins, global e-procurement
manager for bottle maker Graham Packaging Co.

AKRON, OHIO -- A challenging
economy merely heightens your need to accurately read the economic
vital signs of your customers and of the markets you serve. Norbert
J. Ore can help. Hear what this purchasing expert has to say at
Plastics Encounter Encounter, where he will deliver a keynote speech
on Nov. 14 -- just prior to a lively panel on e-purchasing.
Ore is group director of strategic sourcing and procurement at
the $22 billion Georgia-Pacific Corp., and gained extensive plastics
experience in his former roles as purchasing director at Sonoco
Products Co. and Chesapeake Corp.
But he will speak in Atlanta in his role as the five-year head of
the monthly manufacturing business survey conducted by the National
Association of Purchasing Management. The NAPM "Report on Business"
is a leading economic indicator, and includes "rubber and plastics
products" as one of 20 key manufacturing segments it tracks.
The Tempe, Ariz.-based NAPM (www.napm.org),
which was founded in 1915 and changes its name in January to the
Institute for Supply Management, reported recently that U.S. manufacturing
activity declined for the 12th straight month and remains the economy's
weakest link. Ore will present updated information and insights
in Atlanta.

AKRON, OHIO -- Numerous local,
state and federal programs exist that appropriate funds for training
plastics industry workers, but few companies are even aware of them,
much less take advantage of them.
Rick Sturgis, Greenville, S.C.-based
director of southern regional operations for the Society
of the Plastics Industry Inc. trade group, has made it his
mission to identify these programs and help plastics companies tap
into them.
SPI has made significant training-related progress in such states
as Florida and South Carolina, and is continuing that work in other
states. Sturgis will provide an update Nov. 14 at Plastics Encounter
Atlanta, where you can learn what options exist for your operations,
regardless of where they are in the country.

AKRON, OHIO (Aug. 24, 2001) -- Tough
times dictate that managers keep informed to maintain their competitive
edge. That's why you can't afford to miss the conference accompanying
the Nov. 13-15 Plastics Encounter
Atlanta trade show (formerly Plastics Fair) at the Georgia International
Convention Center. The two-day conference program features 18 leading
executives discussing business conditions and technology trends
- from PET container recycling and e-purchasing to training resources
and the debate over all-electric vs. hybrid injection molding machines.
Attendees can participate in the 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. conference sessions
on Tuesday and Wednesday, and still have plenty of time for networking
and visiting the 120 or so exhibitors on the show floor. A conference
pass costs just $50 in advance and affords full access to both days
of the program. It will cost $100 to register on-site. The event
is organized by Crain Communications Inc.'s Plastics
News.
The conference lineup includes:
An in-depth, Tuesday morning panel will serve up fresh data
and views on the economics and challenges of PET
container recycling, and involve officials from Coca-Cola,
Constar, Businesses & Environmentalists Allied for Recycling,
and RecycleWorlds Consulting.
Injection technology will be Tuesday afternoon's focus. Precise
Technology will share insights into its highly automated, in-mold
labeling process for high-volume injection molding, followed
by a spirited debate by competitors Husky, Milacron and Ube Machinery
about the merits of all-electric injection
presses.
Market conditions and information
on often-neglected government training resources
draw the spotlight Wednesday morning, with speakers from the Society
of the Plastics Industry Inc.
The latest economic trends
and the pros and cons of e-purchasing
grab the spotlight later that day, starting with a keynote address
by Georgia-Pacific Corp. purchasing chief Norbert Ore, who also
oversees the National Association of Purchasing Management's monthly
manufacturing business survey, a key economic indicator. A lively
e-purchasing panel will follow, featuring officials from processor
Graham Packaging Co., as well as GE Polymerland, Omnexus and ChemConnect.
Separately, on Nov. 14-15, Paulson Training Programs and Compuplast
International are offering two-day simulation
training sessions for injection molding and extrusion operators,
respectively. Each course costs just $100 per person. Also, the
Southern Section of the Society of Plastics Engineers also is hosting
a one-day technical extrusion seminar on-site on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

AKRON, OHIO (August 7, 2001) -- Due
to a double booking by the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in
New Orleans, La., for April 16-18, 2002, Plastics Encounter will
be docking its plastics industry trade show at the Cook Convention
Center in Memphis, Tenn., on those same dates instead.
"We are sorry that New Orleans could not accommodate us, but
we believe that Memphis offers many of the same draws to exhibitors
and attendees," says Linda Whelan, director of trade shows
and marketing for Plastics Encounter. "Memphis has been noted
as one of the 'Top Ten Hottest Meeting Destinations of the New Millennium.'
It's part of the fast-growing south, but still close to the manufacturing-intensive
Midwest. Memphis is also a vibrant city right on the mighty Mississippi
-- the perfect spot for our nautically-themed shows! "
Crain Communications Inc., publisher of Plastics
News, the leading industry publication, purchased the Western
Plastics Expo and Plastics Fair from Advanstar Communications last
year and has relaunched the shows under a new name and philosophy.
Having recently completed shows in Los Angeles, Calif., and Cleveland,
Ohio, Plastics Encounter will head next to Atlanta, Ga., on November
13-15.
The Plastics Encounter regional shows are planned around the hottest
centers for plastics -- the West Coast, the Midwest and the South.
In addition to Memphis, next year's shows are scheduled for Indianapolis,
Ind. (Sept. 17-19) and Long Beach, Calif. (Nov. 12-14).
"Our show in Memphis will be the only plastics industry trade
show in the South next year, " adds Whelan. "That makes
it the only opportunity for a large number of buyers and sellers
to meet in one place, face to face. "
Each Plastics Encounter show features exhibits representing all
the plastics processes, a conference that offers the very best plastics
industry market insights, and unique networking, including cocktail
receptions on the show floor. They are geared to professionals from
throughout the plastics world -- suppliers to processors and OEMs.
Opportunities are available now for sponsorships and exhibit space.
